Key Requirements of the Law

  • Annual Testing: Water suppliers must ensure that backflow prevention assemblies are tested at least annually to protect the public water system.

  • Certified Testers: Backflow testing must be performed by certified professionals, such as journeyman or apprentice plumbers who have completed an Authority-approved training program.Installation Standards: This rule specifies how and where these assemblies must be installed to prevent "backflow"—which is the flow of water, fertilizers, or chemicals in the opposite direction of the intended flow.

  • Record Keeping: Test results for these devices must be documented and retained for a minimum of 5 years.
